{"id":178,"date":"2016-04-04T11:45:47","date_gmt":"2016-04-04T11:45:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/demo.tokomoo.com\/paradize\/travel\/?post_type=product&amp;p=178"},"modified":"2021-03-05T14:39:21","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T14:39:21","slug":"the-great-wall-of-china","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/demo2.tokomoo.com\/paradize\/product\/the-great-wall-of-china\/","title":{"rendered":"The Great Wall of China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The <b>Great Wall of China<\/b> is a series of <a title=\"Fortification\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fortification\">fortifications<\/a> made of stone, brick, <a title=\"Rammed earth\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rammed_earth\">tamped earth<\/a>, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China to protect the <a title=\"Ancient Chinese states\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ancient_Chinese_states\">Chinese states<\/a> and <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Imperial China\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Imperial_China\">empires<\/a> against the raids and invasions of the various nomadic groups of the <a title=\"Eurasian Steppe\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eurasian_Steppe\">Eurasian Steppe<\/a>. Several walls were being built as early as the 7th century\u00a0<span class=\"smallcaps\">bce<\/span>;<sup id=\"cite_ref-nyt_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Great_Wall_of_China#cite_note-nyt-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> these, later joined together and made bigger and stronger, are now collectively referred to as the Great Wall.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Brit_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Great_Wall_of_China#cite_note-Brit-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup> Especially famous is the wall built 220\u2013206\u00a0<span class=\"smallcaps\">bce<\/span> by <a title=\"Qin Shi Huang\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Qin_Shi_Huang\">Qin Shi Huang<\/a>, the first Emperor of China. Little of that wall remains. Since then, the Great Wall has on and off been rebuilt, maintained, and enhanced; the majority of the existing wall is from the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Ming Dynasty\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ming_Dynasty\">Ming Dynasty<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other purposes of the Great Wall have included <a title=\"Border barrier\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Border_barrier\">border controls<\/a>, allowing the imposition of duties on goods transported along the <a title=\"Silk Road\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Silk_Road\">Silk Road<\/a>, regulation or encouragement of trade and the control of immigration and emigration. Furthermore, the defensive characteristics of the Great Wall were enhanced by the construction of watch towers, troop barracks, garrison stations, signaling capabilities through the means of smoke or fire, and the fact that the path of the Great Wall also served as a transportation corridor.<\/p>\n<p>The Great Wall stretches from <a title=\"Dandong\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dandong\">Dandong<\/a> in the east, to <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Lop Lake\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lop_Lake\">Lop Lake<\/a> in the west, along an arc that roughly delineates the southern edge of <a title=\"Inner Mongolia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inner_Mongolia\">Inner Mongolia<\/a>.
